 I was struck by the painting of “The mistress of Shallot” Michael showed in the preceding lecture (pained I’m not sure who the projector was) that I had to go back a re-read the piece of poetry of Alfred Tennyson it was united to.  There is no be in a state of uncertainty that Tennyson saw the want for resistance and a make some change in to what was general perceived to be agreeable. I must admit after perusal this poem I googled a personal history on this man and looked at the adjoining matter for the women and pl of child in this time (afflicted I was reminded of our last agitation question).  For some understanding his poem appealed to me more than that of Elizabeth Browning (and I’m not assured why). It seems his concern is of nature as he effectively depicts such emotive yet of tragedy tale of the disempowered women. It seems his “matron” becomes a similitude of what he perceives to be the way women were treated in the 19th centaury. By using Thomas Malory’s Arthurian characters, Tennyson has allowed his formal reception to understand the oppressed system of created things of women, brought upon by even the most clarified and admired characters of greatness who rather than see her for what she is, only look “her enchanting face"
 Through his colorful and metrical flow Tennyson has drawn his formal reception into a subconscious recollection of what he deems to be the injustices brought about by mainstream company. Tennyson takes big care to describe The mistress’s surroundings but delves diminutive into her physical arrival, thus challenging his fellowship to look spent her physical appearances and individual attributes at the “denounce” such a mistress is forced into contained not only in her material isolation, but in the detachment faced by many women. At seasons Serious and condescending tones, demands to be heard as “willows Whitens” exhibition of differences significantly with the “vital current was frozen slowly” square the bleakness brought about by company, who have consequently robbed a matron of her identity, emphasized in “who is this?” bringing to inquiry...
